We offer environmentally friendly computer solutions to home and business clients. We are socially conscious and make an effort to use brands which we know make good environmental choices, we offer socially conscious pricing structures to home users, students and non-profit.
Question: What do you mean, “Eco-Friendly” computer repair?
Answer: Well, there are many ways to make computers and computer repair more environmentally friendly.
If you have an older computer, we can help you to keep it clean. Cleaning the dust and dirt out of your computer helps it to run cooler, the fans inside your computer operate on temperature (the less heat, the slower the fans, resulting in less energy usage).
We can also change your older power supply to a modern auto-sensing power supply. Older power supplies run at a constant power setting. For example, if you have a 500 watt power supply in your computer, you may only *need* 175 watts of power to run the stuff you are doing right now, such as surfing the internet and reading this article. Now, if you start running lots of applications or playing video games you may need that additional power but maybe only more 300 watts.
A modern power supply can “sense” what you need and give you only that, offering additional financial AND environmental savings. We can also adjust your system to “sleep” when your not using it allowing your computer go into a very low power mode when its not being used but still know when to wake up and run a virus scan or back up your stuff.
As far as computer repair goes we can work remotely for many software-related problems and even problem diagnosis. This means that we don’t always need to drive to your location to diagnose or even often times fix your problems. Not only does this cut our environmental impact for your repair but also makes it easier for you to know what’s going on..
You have options when it comes to parts replacement. You and I can choose to use recycled computer parts, refurbished computer parts or new computer parts. Recycled and refurbished parts can be sourced from our own “recycle bin”, purchased online, or sourced at local e-cyclers such as Freegeek.org’s thrift shop. Recycled parts may have a shorter life span then new parts, but we are maximizing the parts lifespan, keeping perfectly useable parts out of a landfill and in the end saving you money. Recycled parts can cost 20%-75% less than new. They also do not have all the additional packaging associated with a new part– this means less in the landfill. We encourage the use of recycled parts, remembering that we are fixing a computer that only has a reasonable lifespan of about 5 years. After 5 years the technology has changed so much that most people and businesses benefit from upgrading.
We recycle! This seems like it should be such a simple practice but in the many years I have been doing this I have seen so few shops put the proper emphasis on recycling. We recycle computer parts in environmentally friendly ways-even monitors. We recycle our packaging, our paper gets shredded and recycled in our own garden.
We are a home based business. If you are thinking, “Home based?!?! But doesn’t that mean my computer is not safe?”, please remember that just because we are home based does not mean that we are not a legitimate business. We are licensed as an LLC and we carry business insurance just like everyone else does. What we don’t have are separate resources for home and office, reducing our use of electricity, gas, and the environmental repercussions of unnecessary driving.
